Directions: From Aviemore, take the B970 towards Boat of Garten and Nethy Bridge. In the centre of the village and over the bridge, turn right just before Nethy Bridge Hotel and follow the signs for Tomintoul for 1.5miles. From Grantown-on-Spey, head west on the A95 over the Spey Bridge and then turn onto the B970 for Nethy Bridge. Just after the hotel, turn left and follow the Tomintoul road signs for 1.5 miles. From Tomintoul, follow the A939 and just after Dirdu Farm, turn left and follow the signs for Nethy Bridge and Aviemore for 2-3 miles.

Nethy Bridge – Just minutes from the site, Nethy Bridge, known as the Forest Village, straddles the River Nethy on the edge of the Abernethy National Nature Reserve, with everything you need. Enjoy hearty meals and cosy hospitality at the hotel and pub, relax in the local Nethy House coffee shop or Forest Cafe at the golf course, or try a game at the tennis courts, bowling green or 9-hole golf course. Fishing on the famous River Spey is only a few miles away. Stock up on essentials at the friendly general store (open daily) or pick up locally reared meats and produce from the village butcher—perfect for BBQs or a hearty meal back at your pitch.
Nature walks – Enjoy the extensive and well-maintained network of local woodland and riverside paths, where wildlife sightings and serene landscapes make for rejuvenating strolls in the foothills of the Cairngorms. Visit the Explore Abernethy exhibition in the Community Centre for more information, or speak with Donnie or Ailsa for some recommendations, including the nearby Lettoch Trail.
RSPB Abernethy Forest NNR / Loch Garten (Osprey Centre) – Nearby, enjoy birdwatching and woodland trails at RSPB’s Abernethy Forest National Nature Reserve, or head to Loch Garten to observe ospreys in their summer nests.
Speyside Way – The famous long-distance trail runs through the village, tracing the River Spey through forest, moorland, and whisky country—perfect for both short outings and serious hikes or bike rides.
Broomhill Station – Speyside Steam Train (Aviemore to Broomhill) – Board the vintage steam train from Aviemore, winding through moorland, forests and river scenery for a nostalgic scenic ride.
Highland Games in Nethy (“The Friendly Games”) – Usually held on the second Saturday in August, this traditional event showcases Highland dancing, piping, and athletic competitions in a playful village atmosphere.
Grantown Agricultural Show – Taking place on the second Thursday in August, this lively local show features livestock judging, crafts, parades, and family fun.
Local distilleries – The Cairn (Gordon & MacPhail) – Just outside Grantown-on-Spey, visit this architecturally striking distillery for guided tours and tastings of artisanal whiskies. Alternatively, turn right out of Garlyne Brae and head over to Tomintoul, Glenlivet and Dufftown to visit some world-famous distilleries on Scotland's Malt Whisky Trail.
Rothiemurchus Estate activities – Head to Rothiemurchus near Aviemore for quad biking, pony trekking, clay pigeon shooting, falconry, zip wire experiences in the trees and more—all amid stunning Cairngorms scenery.
Glenmore and Loch Morlich. Enjoy the beach and trails at Glenmore. Try out paddle boarding or canoeing on the loch in the shadow of Cairngorm Mountain.
